Enhancing Community College Pathways in Delaware
Delaware’s economic landscape is rapidly evolving, with a pressing need for a skilled workforce to meet the demands of emerging industries. However, a significant barrier remains: the disconnect between high school graduation and post-secondary employment opportunities. Approximately 25% of Delaware high school graduates do not pursue further education, leaving many without viable career pathways.
High school students, particularly from low-income backgrounds, often lack access to information about community college programs and career training opportunities. This gap is especially pronounced in urban areas where economic constraints limit access to resources. Without effective partnerships between high schools and community colleges, students miss out on crucial training that could lead to stable employment.
Our project aims to study the effectiveness of community college partnerships in enhancing career pathways for high school students in Delaware. The funding will facilitate research on collaborative models that align high school curricula with community college programs, addressing the skills gap in the local workforce. By focusing on tailored workforce training programs, we seek to improve graduation and employment rates among high school students.
We will engage with local businesses and community colleges to create pathways that are not only accessible but also aligned with market needs. By providing students with practical training and career exposure, we aim to support a smoother transition from education to employment. Additionally, our project will evaluate the impact of these partnerships on student outcomes, ensuring that the strategies developed are effective and scalable.
With Delaware’s unique economic challenges, this initiative stands to enhance the lives of young people by providing them with the skills and opportunities necessary for success in an evolving job market. By addressing community college pathways, we are working toward a more inclusive and prepared workforce in the state.
