Grant Overview
Delaware's schools face significant capacity gaps in addressing the mental health needs of their students. According to a recent report by the Delaware Department of Education, over 40% of Delaware students experience significant stress and anxiety. The Buddhist Practices in Schools program aims to address this challenge by introducing mindfulness and Buddhist practices into Delaware classrooms. What are the capacity requirements for this program? Schools must demonstrate a willingness to integrate mindfulness practices into their daily routines and provide a dedicated space for mindfulness activities. They must also commit to working with program staff to develop customized lesson plans that meet the needs of their students. Unlike neighboring states, Delaware's small size and relatively centralized education system make it an ideal location for piloting innovative mindfulness programs. The program will be implemented in partnership with local schools, such as the Delaware School for the Deaf and the Brandywine School District. Delaware's diverse student population, including significant numbers of low-income and minority students, will benefit from this program. The state's major educational institutions, including the University of Delaware and Delaware State University, will also be involved in the program, providing expertise and resources. ## Bringing Mindfulness to Delaware Classrooms ## Delaware's unique educational landscape, with its mix of urban and rural schools, requires a tailored approach to mindfulness programming. The program will address the specific needs of Delaware students, ensuring that they are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. ## Enhancing Student Well-being ## The program will prioritize the development of customized lesson plans, providing a framework for teachers to integrate mindfulness practices into their daily routines.
